About
My name is Ubada Muti.
I was born in 1993 [Day=1], and grew up between languages, cities and ways of seeing. My early life was shaped as a third culture kid and an expat in the Hijaz, before I moved between London and Oxford to study architecture and fine arts. In time, I found my way to İstanbul, where I now live: shaping a quiet, independent life around my family and my studio.
I paint, draw, write and document. Most of my work lives on paper, my ever-favourite material, and often on both of its sides. Each piece is catalogued with care, part of an ongoing archive I call ⁶ planned, measured, logged, dated, signed and preserved. I approach my practice the way others might approach prayer or record-keeping: with rhythm, discipline and tenderness. My mind, my joy, my doubt and my longing all find their way into the work.
My themes drift through vibration, dissonance, memory, routine, responsibility, time, wonder, play and resistance. I try to make visual documents of feeling: to trace the quiet tensions that live within colour, form and rhythm. I listen for the chaos in life, and try to turn it into something beautiful.
Alongside painting and drawing, I also write essays, stories and poems. In my professional life, I’ve worked with businesses on strategy, offered critique to designers, and helped shape early-stage ideas.
For years, I kept most of my work to myself. I’ve shared it only in a handful of exhibitions, and rarely sold it. Most pieces have stayed close: carefully archived, kept nearby, or gifted to those I love. But now, as my wife and I prepare to welcome our first child, I’ve decided to open this part of my life. I hope that sharing and selling my work will support both my practice and my growing family. So I’m beginning, quietly, honestly, one piece at a time.
I work alone, from my home studio in İstanbul. I run Ubada Muti Limited, a UK-registered company through which I manage international sales, projects and publications. Everything you see here: each line, each layer, each word and each package, is done by me, with care.
With much love,
Ubada Muti
